Intimacy Coordination

What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

An intimacy coordinator is a trained professional who is responsible for ensuring the safe, consensual, and respectful depiction of intimate scenes or sensitive content in film, television, theatre and the performing arts. They work with actors, directors, and production teams to choreograph scenes involving physical touch, nudity, or simulated sex and other sensitive content while prioritising the performers' boundaries and well-being.

The IC analyses and manages the psycho-physical risks of a scene in order to execute the director’s artistic vision and protect the performers’ well-being. Their role includes actor intakes, risk assessments, creating nudity riders, facilitating rehearsals, and overseeing closed-set protocols, all with a focus on informed consent and creative collaboration. Their work also involves coordinating different departments to ensure the set is a peaceful environment for all teams involved. They ensure that physical, emotional, and professional spaces are respected, creating a safe space for everyone.

How I came to be an Intimacy Coordinator

I have long been fascinated by the importance of intimacy and touch in our lives and in how we tell stories. I am committed to working with intimate content in a conscious and embodied way that ultimately leads to everyone involved being proud of their work. As a dance and theatre artist with twenty years of experience in the performing arts, I have been deep in the research of the body, sensation, expression, and improvisation, which has led me to Intimacy Coordination, a field that I am proud and delighted to be working in.

I work across film, television, video game production, theatre, dance, opera, and performance. I’m available to work in Ireland, the UK and across Europe. My working languages are English, German and Italian.
